MEET DC’S OWN ROB JAMES R&B/HIPHOP RECORDING ARTISTS
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in rap music, and how did your journey begin?
What inspired me to pursue music is when Michael Jackson had his first solo performance and moonwalked for the first time! And once I finally made Showtime at the Apollo in the 5th grade. They let us stand on stage to feel the heat to show us how hot the lights can make a stage. I was stuck staring into the lights telling myself this is what I wanted to do!
2. Can you share a bit about your roots in the DMV area and how it has influenced your music?
I was born in Washington DC Howard University Hospital minutes before midnight. Grew up on West Virginia Ave. My parents Aunts and Uncles always was throwing parties and at every party they wanted to show off this kid! Break dancing and doing his Michael Jackson bit! I eventually moved to Capital Heights Md. with my grandparents and their is where I started to find my way with rapping rhymes. I was influenced by life it self finding a better way making something out of nothing! My fellow peers my friends in the neighborhood actually was the guys pumping me up telling me I was the best thing smoking
3. Were there any specific artists or influences that motivated you to start rapping?
Blessings I use to rap to a Go-Go pocket beat at first But with rap music. It’s a few let’s go to the beginning Rakim Big Daddy Kane Heavy D then Rob Base
4. How do you infuse your personal experiences or the culture of the DMV into your music?
This is where I’m from it’s who I am it’s my talk my accent the way I dress the shoes I wear it’s all in my music
5. What challenges did you face when starting in the rap game, and how did you overcome them?
Blessings I faced many challenges once I started. Non Believers Dream Sellers lack of support. And everything else that comes with it. Whoever I kept Believing in me and Improving in my craft and started to run my own lane. Find the support that want to see me win! That means we all win!
6. Can you discuss a turning point or moment that solidified your passion for pursuing rap as a career?
It started in High School 9th grade once the popular kid’s upper classmates started calling me Rapping Rob
7. What keeps you motivated and driven in an industry that can be quite competitive?
The passion for it. I stand apart my energy is on Jupiter from day one. And the competitive part just keep you sharp to stand apart
8. How do you balance staying true to your authentic self while also adapting to the evolving rap scene?
Easy just continue to be true to who you are keeping my integrity, authenticity and organically things will fall in place
9. Are there specific messages or themes you aim to convey through your music, especially reflecting your DMV roots?
Just that he’s one of them ones from the DMV
10. What advice would you give to aspiring artists from similar backgrounds who are trying to break into the rap industry?
Trust yourself Believe yourself never settle stay consistent as possible. Never Give up on your Dreams. Because that day that you quit. Could be that day that you always been working for.

Two of the “underground’s” premier products, MIKE and Earl Sweatshirt, along with producing team SURF GANG, are dropping off two more tracks ahead of their three-way joint tape, POMPEII // UTILITY. Due out on Friday, April 3, the highly anticipated project will feature a massive total of 33 tracks, split into two discs. Each side will feature songs exclusively by Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE, although there are a few features sprinkled in. So far, this trio has dropped off three other songs since March 10. Stay tuned for more.
Child Boy – Song by Lil Yachty
Lil Yachty recently dropped off another Concrete Boys tape, but he also has plenty of new solo music to share. The “Child Boy” freestyle is his latest YouTube-exclusive offering, complete with a music video for a banger that, in all likelihood, sadly probably won’t make it to DSPs. Regardless, it’s worth spinning again and again. This new cut is a two-parter split into a laidback and glistening first half with rattling percussion. The second half is a more trap-leaning section with effortless triplet flows, vocal sample chops, and a more woozy treatment of the main melody. With some crooning at the end, a synth-led outro, and a smooth transition between both parts, Lil Yachty’s “Child Boy” is a satisfying release despite its short runtime.
